MAKE A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE IN A CHILD'S LIFE

The Positive Place For Kids

Meeting the Need

There are children who live their whole lives without hope; children who never see the wonder of the world; and children who cannot envision themselves or their existence outside the few blocks of their too often unhealthy neighborhood.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Johnston County will reach many of our youth and their families every year through diversified, daily programs that promote their health, social, educational, vocational, character and cultural development. Through nationally proven programs in technology centers, instructional art classes, leadership and community service opportunities, abstinence-based programs and tutorial assistance are only to name a few of the ways this is accomplished.

Research data is available that shows Boys & Girls Clubs make a significant difference in the quality of life for our youth. The data shows nationally there is a 25% reduction in presence of crack cocaine, 22% reduction in overall drug activity, and 12% reduction in juvenile crime. In addition, youth participating in the study increased their overall GPA 15% higher, had 87% fewer school absences and showed an 81% increase in homework completion. * (*Schnike, Cole & Poulin - Columbia University School of Social Work: http://www.bgc-columbia.org/assets/bgcsaveslives.pdf)
